Growing up, Michelle was taught the importance of helping others as her parents and family members served in their community. She, in turn, volunteered in various capacities with several organizations including The Boys and Girls Club, Mercer Bear Buddies, and Broward Outreach Center.
For Michelle, it was a daunting experience starting over in a new country as a teenage immigrant from Great Britain to South Florida. She soon recognized her need for God and took comfort in trusting God for direction.
Michelle received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. After graduation, she was employed by a Crisis Intervention Center working with people facing difficult situations such as mental illnesses, those contemplating suicide, victims of sexual assault, domestic violence. As a Prevention Specialist, she also lectured male and female college students on the issue of “Date Rape Awareness”, and spoke during Elementary School Assemblies on “Stranger Danger” and “Home Alone” safety. Once she returned to Florida, Michelle had the privilege of working as an Elementary School Teacher for the Broward County School Board.
Michelle is an ordained minister with Kingsway Fellowship International. She has served at Daybreak Assembly, Inc. in many areas including Faith Education, Worship Team, Outreach, and Children’s Ministry. She created a Dance and Drama Ministry, as well as established the “Vessels of Honor” Women’s Ministry. Currently, she is the Co-Pastor and Church Administrator overseeing its ministry teams, events, and programs. Michelle is registered with the State of Florida as a Premarital Course Provider and a member of the Religious Conference Management Association. Her husband Reverend Alan Alexander is the Senior Pastor at Daybreak and they have been married for over twenty years. They have three wonderful children Luke, Victoria, and Daniel.
Michelle is eternally grateful to all those that have impacted and poured into her life. Therefore her desire is to do the same for others. One way she is able to do this is through Beyond DBL, an organization she founded designed to encourage, educate, and empower individuals to fulfill their God-given purpose. Four main avenues of Beyond DBL include “Denim and Diamonds” (an annual event created to celebrate women wherever they are on their journey, with inspiring messages, creative arts, food, fashion and recognition of dynamic women who are leading in various fields), “My Marriage” (retreats and seminars to refuel & strengthen marriages), “MCAL” (a small group mentoring program for women), and lastly, “Beyond Performing Arts” (a performing arts program for school-aged students and adults). Due to lack of exposure, lack of family funds, or school funding cuts, Michelle was saddened when she realized many children were not able to explore their creative side. Beyond Performing Arts was created not only to give children and teens a platform to discover, and improve their gifts and talents, but also to aid in building confidence and good character traits.
It has been Michelle’s great joy to pour into the lives of individuals, especially women of various ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds. It is her desire that all people fulfill their potential in which the Lord has purposed them; living out their God-given destiny where lives are impacted, and God is glorified.
